Item Description
U.S. Jones is a patriotic comic book superhero character who first appeared in "Wonderworld Comics" #28 published by Fox Feature Syndicate in Aug. 1941. Kit consists of five pieces and was issued shortly after the character first appeared in 1941. Pair of 8.5x11" sheets include welcome letter which mentions membership card and training in air raid home defense. Second letter has "Outline For Civilian Defense" 10-point pledge. Both folded as mailed and are clean and VF overall. 1.25" dia. cello button has image of U.S. Jones from the knees up and "U.S. Jones Cadets" club name in shield design. No maker's mark. Metal back has lt. trace of surface oxidation and some pinpoint age dots on reverse cello rim where it meets the metal collet. Front remains totally bright and glossy, displaying NM. 3-7/8x4" code card opens to 4x9.25" and has attached cardstock decoder wheel. Card has lt. even aging and some corner tip wear. VF. 2.75x3.75" membership card has U.S. Jones facsimile signature and has been neatly filled out in black ink on provided lines. Upper right corner has faint moisture stain. Fine/VF overall. This is the only complete kit we know of and one of the rarest and most sought after of all comic club kits. All are very rare and the actual examples shown in "The Official Price Guide To Pop Culture Memorabilia" by Ted Hake and comes with COA. A must have for the serious comic book premium related collector.
