Item Description
Warren Publishing, Feb, 1958. First Warren monster magazine. Among the first and certainly the most famous of movie monster magazines, "Famous Monsters Of Filmland" was published from 1958-1983. Cover features Frankenstein's Monster in a dapper suit w/"Ghoul Friend" Marion Moore. Frankenstein's Monster is portrayed by publisher James Warren. Forrest J. Ackerman text stories. Will Elder art. Magazine contains classic bw photos of monsters including Frankenstein, Bride of Frankenstein, Metaluna Mutant, Creature From The Black Lagoon, King Kong, The Wolfman, Dracula as well as actors Bela Lugosi, Boris Karloff, Lon Chaney, Jr., Christopher Lee, Elsa Lanchester, Lon Chaney, Sr. Front cover has some pencil saying "All Read" and "NC" in ink. Issue has moderate handling wear w/pinch creases to spine and corner tip wear. Cover has 3" tear center right edge. Pages have evenly aged but remain clean. VG overall. Next is issue #2 which features classic image of James Warren in seated position wearing devil mask and hands along w/suit and tie w/orange bkg. as opposed to red bkg. used for American edition. ©1959 Brook Street Publications, Ltd. Identical to US edition w/exception of cover design. "Dear Monster" letters begin. Forrest J. Ackerman text. First appearance of Monster Mail-Order section. Moderate cover wear w/color rubs. Pinch creases to spine and scattered handling wear. VG. Pages remain clean though slightly aged. VG. Much rarer than US edition. Classic monster magazine pair.
