Item Description
This piece is one of the very earliest items of Disney character merchandise and possibly the earliest Disney-related toy. Universal Toy & Novelty Co., 1928. 6.5x8.5x.75" deep box has illustrated lid w/six different images of Oswald which are identical to the set of six stencils included w/this set. Stencils are each 4.5x5.5" on stiff green cardboard and include - "Painting The Town, The Jazz Singer, The Sheik, Playing Bandit, Marathon Runner" and "The Athlete." Comes w/set of six glossy paper sheets w/stenciled images done in lead pencil. Also comes w/small bag containing assortment of cardboard pieces that were originally punched out of the stencils and then saved. Box lid has some rippling to surface paper and some corner tip wear but box remains tight and VF overall. One of the stencils has a 2x3" area of ft. moisture staining at one corner, three stencils have some crayoning of die-cut areas as used. All still have bright appearance overall, contents are Fine to VF. One of the six glossy paper sheets has a 1" dia. tan stain and each has lt. edge curl. Rare. This is the actual example shown in "The Official Price Guide To Disney Collectibles" by Ted Hake and comes with COA.
