Item Description
23.75x34". C. 1968 w/Emeryville, CA address at lower right. Perhaps the most widely recognized image produced by the Black Panthers. Minister Of Defense Huey Newton sits, eyes fixed on the viewer, in a fan back wicker chair w/rifle in his right hand and an African spear in his left. Quote at lower right "The Racist Dog Policemen Must Withdraw Immediately From Our Communities, Cease Their Wanton Murder And Brutality And Torture Of Black People, Or Face The Wrath Of The Armed People." Tape stains in corners, creasing along left side, a less than 1" tear at top left and a less than 3/4" tear at top right. Overall heavy handling wear. Good. Could benefit from attention by a skilled paper conservator but still displays powerfully as is.
