Item Description
Original cardboard box w/illustrated paper label contains 3x6x8" tall tin litho toy w/built-in key. Made in Germany by Distler, c. 1930. Lid label remains bright and clean w/some minor creases at right corners and 1.25" surface hairline at upper right. Label displays Exc. w/deep, rich color. Lid has .75" and 2" edge splits at top corners and box has some creasing to left/right side panels, but box remains tight and displays VF. This original box is very rare, w/only a few known examples. Toy comes directly from the original English owner, who received it new back in the 1930s. This tin litho toy is often found w/missing or replaced parts, however this example is 100% complete and all original. The large Mickey Mouse figure is attached to and pushes a street organ that features multiple images of him. Separate small Minnie Mouse figure on a metal rod is attached to the top of the street organ. Again, this Minnie figure is usually missing or replaced but this is complete and original. Mickey even has his original spring tail. Toy works and as Mickey turns the crank, Minnie dances and musical notes are produced. Toy shows just the tiniest traces of wear from storage over the decades, but still a stunning, glossy and NM example of this rare Disney toy. One of the most coveted 1930s Disney toys, especially w/the seldom seen box. An amazing new discovery in the hobby, this is the nicest example we've seen or offered in our 52 years, even nicer than the example from the Sendak Collection we sold for $27,830 in 2013.
