Item Description
17x22" offset litho on thin paper. C.1949. Text at bottom right "Issued By The Self-Defense Committee Of The 17 Smith Act Victims." Fragile paper w/one vertical and three horizontal folds. Four holes, two affecting photo. Horizontal separation at lower right fold that affects text and handling wear/age toning. Just Good. Rare. Communist Party members began being charged in 1949 for violations of the Smith Act accusing members of plotting to overthrow the government and in the following years the over 100 cases brought against members decimated the party.
