Item Description
The Shield was one of the most popular comic book heroes of the 1940s, fighting to protect the American way of life in a patriotic costume that made him invulnerable. In fact, The Shield was the first hero to wear such a costume, introduced in "Pep Comics" #1 in 1940, pre-dating Captain America by over a year. The Shield also appeared in "Shield-Wizard Comics" between 1940 and 1944 and the character's popularity gave rise to The Shield G-Man Club. Offered here is a rare 1.5" dia. club button from the 1940 comic book club membership kit sponsored by "Pep Comics" and features classic image of The Shield bending steel beam. Smaller 1.25" dia. and larger 1.75" dia. buttons were also produced, but this 1.5" size is much scarcer than the other size varieties. Tiny surface bump at 1 o'clock edge area and some lt. surface wear, but still bright and glossy w/deep color. VF overall. Rare and just the second of this size variety we've seen in our 53 years.
