Item Description
Pair of 1940s photos featuring US Armed Forces and Disney-related content. First is great oversized 11x14" Army graduation group photo from June 12, 1942 taken at Fort Monmouth, NJ. During World War II this base was the training camp for enlisted men and officers going into the Army Signal Corps. Lower left has framed sign w/image of signal corps insignia, along w/images of Mickey Mouse taking photo and Donald Duck writing list w/quill pen. These images pertain to some of the Signal Corps various duties during the war. We are unsure if either of these were done by the Disney Studio but the Donald image is certainly of the same standard/style. Back has stamped lines for "Autographs" and "My Buddies" as well as information about reordering photos. Photo has some margin/corner tip wear and is Fine. Second is glossy 8-1/8x10" news service photo from 1942 showing two officers from the US Naval Air Station Air Cadet Division at Pensacola, FL observing art image of Donald Duck riding oxygen tank and wearing oxygen mask. Full Navy Department text on reverse includes information that insignia shown was done by a Disney Studio artist for the Oxygen Indoctrination Unit at this base. Photo has some aging along right margin and is Fine overall. Historic pair of items pertaining to the Disney Studios aiding in the war effort.
