Item Description
Historic pair of early Mickey/Disney pinbacks. First is 7/8" without Disney name but with a small copyright symbol. This rather primitive image of Mickey is the very first design created to be given to "Mickey Mouse Club" members in theatre's showing Mickey cartoons. The club idea came from theatre manager Harry W. Woodin who got Disney's approval for his idea in Sept. 1929.  The first club was established January 11,1930 at the Fox Dome Theatre in Ocean Park, California. The same image appears on membership application blanks given prospective members. The first design was used only a few months and was soon replaced by the smiling, waving, pie-eyed studio designed Mickey. The button has numerous but very light surface scratches seen only in certain reflected light angles. Still glossy and extremely Fine. Rare. Second is a 13/16 litho issued in 1931 and distributed as part of a set of movie star buttons. These come with and without the name of the maker Western Theater Premium Co. L.A. on the curl; this is the without version. Button front now carries official notice "Copy. 1928-1930 By W.E.Disney". NM and rare.
