Item Description
13.5x14x4" deep box contains complete six-piece set. No MGM markings, but released by Marx for the 1959 Christmas season to capitalize on the popularity of the film starring Charlton Heston. Box has been opened and shows scattered wear/aging w/large edge splits to top flaps. Fine overall. Contents include pair of 12.5" dia. tin litho shields, each w/illustration of jeweled sword handle at center w/large "Ben-Hur" name at top and surrounded by additional images including horse-drawn chariots, character closely resembling Prince Valiant on horseback and crests. Reverse of each has a metal handle. Pair of swords are 18" long w/hard plastic painted/simulated jeweled handles and flexible soft plastic blades. Each comes w/matching tin litho scabbard ornately decorated on each side including jewel designs and each has attached vinyl belt loop. Slightest trace of surface aging to the metal parts only noticeable upon very close inspection. All remains exceptionally bright and glossy. Exc. set. Nicely designed.
