Item Description
This is a very fine example of a classic mechanical bank and a key collectible for the Theodore Roosevelt specialist. Patented by J.E. Stevens Co. in 1907, the bank is 3" deep by 10" long by 10" tall. This example is all original, including the trap under the base, and has no repairs. The tree trunk is gray, somewhat scarcer than the brown trunk version. Typical darkening of the paint with age but only widely scattered and minor paint loss with the vast majority remaining. The bank's title appears on the front edge of the base. Mechanical action as follows: Sliding back a metal piece on the top cocks the rifle. The bear is pushed into the tree stump and the cover closed. A coin is placed on the gun barrel and the lever on the base is depressed. TR's head lowers as if taking aim, the coin shoots into the stump and the bear pops up. A percussion cap can be used in the gun to produce an explosion.
