Item Description
"Chicken Sam" was a popular 1930s rifle style arcade game made by Seeburg under the "Ray-O-Lite" rifle range brand. The game utilized different figures, including a hobo and a stereotypical African-American figure, who were both presented as chicken thieves. In 1942 Mike Munves, the leading distributor of arcade games, had the idea to sell conversion kits to machine operators to convert these figures to an Anti-Japanese soldier figure. The machines' names were then changed to "Kill The Jap/Trap The Jap." Offered here is one such converted figure, which stand 18" tall as mounted w/its original mechanical components on custom black painted steel stand. The point of the game was to "shoot" the figure using an electronic rifle on one of his sides, which have glass disc windows at figure's shoulders, causing the figure to spin around and reverse direction while registering your score. Components controlling this action appear complete and can be manually moved, causing the figure to spin. Molded composition figure has been hand-painted, w/stereotypical Japanese depiction, w/rising sun on helmet. Instead of a chicken in each hand, figure has been converted and now appears to carry some sort of metal equipment. Figure shows scattered aging and wear, w/some hairlines and small flakes/chips (most noticeable to helmet. Fine overall. Still and an impressive piece overall and sure to become a highlight of any Homefront collection.
