Item Description
Original, but restored, wood frame is 15” diameter by 2” deep. Partial label on back has name “Powell’s” missing but “Lincoln Medallion” is readable along with 2.5” oval label from a Cincinnati framer (firm name incomplete). Front has convex glass over original blue velvet background. At center is 7” tall high relief (over an inch deep) metal shell bust of bearded Lincoln in wonderful metallic patina colors shading from silvers to purples with bright golden brass highlights on his hair, beard, coat and draped fabric design around the sides and lower edge. On shoulder truncation is inscription “J. Powell – F. Patented 1865.” This firm also made a matching bust of U.S. Grant. A stunning metallic portrait. One of two we’ve seen in 40 years. $700- $1000
