Item Description
Dark blue 9.5x12-7/8" molded pearlware octagonal platter was produced by Edwin Bennett Pottery Company of Baltimore, MD c. 1874 and commemorates Pickett's Charge during the Battle of Gettysburg. Backside has United States motto "E Pluribus Unum" over image of eagle and US shield. "Pickett's Charge, Gettysburg" printed below this. Platter features central scene showing the disastrous Pickett's Charge, which took place the final day of the Battle of Gettysburg, July 3, 1863. Scene includes Confederate and American flags w/troops from both sides and cannon in foreground. This is surrounded by oak leaves and acorns w/portraits of Civil War Generals Robert E. Lee, William S. Hancock, James Longstreet and George Meade. Bottom edge has two tiny shallow chips, which are only noticeable upon close inspection. Platter o/w remains glossy and displays Exc. w/no cracks/repairs.
