Item Description
5.75x8-7/8" hardcover contains rebound softcover book published 1870s to 1888 by Dick & Fitzgerald. Originally published in 1837 as "Histoire de M. Vieux Bois," it was published in English as "The Adventures Of Obadiah Oldbuck" written/illustrated by Swiss caricaturist Rodolphe Töpffer. Published first in Europe and then in the US as a newspaper supplement, "The Adventures Of Obadiah Oldbuck" is commonly referred to as the first comic book printed in the US and America's first newspaper comic. This is green cover version, which has been trimmed and applied to rebound cover. All 80 pages complete/intact but missing original back cover (rebound cover present). Pages remain supple, and just a few pages have some soiling. Rest remains clean. Pages are Fine overall. Original cover (now applied on front) has some scattered moderate color rubs and is VG. All printings of this historic book are rare and this example presents as a nice copy as can be found, easily read without damaging as now rebound. Dan Makara Collection.
