Item Description
1.75" no maker with spring pin holding 4.25" gold lettering on red ribbon. Dr. Muchinsky writes this was likely produced for the fight vs Liston Feb, 25, 1964 as his name is presented as Cassius Clay.  Ali became champion when Liston didn't answer the 7th Round bell. Ali announced his name change after this fight. This button may have been reused, with ribbon added, for the re-match with Liston May 25, 1965. Ali knocked Liston out in Round 1. Edge at 9 o'clock is missing 3/16" spot of celluloid and smaller dot of paper. There are numerous scratches up to .75" long both vertically and horizontally over Ali's image but they are not deep enough to show in straight on viewing. There is no stain and still nice gloss. The button is Fine, the ribbon is Exc. Rare. Paul Muchinsky Collection Book Example.
