Item Description
9x12.5" each backed w/rice paper stabilizing edge tears and repairing losses. First reads "All Who Are Favorable To The Organization Of A Band Of 'Wide Awakes' In Brandon Are Requested To Meet At Town Hall This Evening At 7-1/2 O'clock" and is dated "Oct. 24, 1860" at lower left. Touch ups to fill in some lettering most notably part of the "W" in headline text "Wide." Displays VG. An amazing survivor of the famed marching groups known for their torchlight rallies. Second dated six days later "Oct. 30, 1860" w/headline "Republicans Attend!!" and text requesting that Brandon Republicans meet "Thursday Evening Nov. 1st '60 For The Purpose Of Making Arrangements To Secure A Full Vote, At The Coming Presidential Election, Which Comes Off On Tuesday Next." Only one minor touch up to the "W" in "Town Hall." Otherwise moderate handling and age toning. Displays VG. Vermont went heavily for Lincoln w/Brandon delivering for 'Honest Abe' despite being the birthplace of Stephen Douglas.
