Item Description
Original illustrated cardboard box contains 6.5" tall die-cut tin litho Toy No. 173 that was distributed by Geo. Borgfeldt under their Nifty brand name in 1931. Toy has spring plunger mechanism on back and depicts Mickey Mouse holding pair of drumsticks and has jointed arms. Separate tin litho drum is attached to pants and has "Mickey Mouse" name on front side and "Nifty Jazz Drummer" name on drumhead. This is variety w/drum in red/white/blue (also produced in green/white/orange color variety, see following item). Complete w/separate tin tail that serves as prop for toy. Toy works well and when mechanism is activated, the separate drumhead rapidly moves up and down, causing Mickey's arms to move as if he is drumming and drumming noise is produced. Back rim edge of drum head has some scattered missing paint. Toy o/w shows very little wear w/just some tiny paint nicks. Bright and glossy w/strong color. VF. Rarely found this nice. Original box features Mickey and Minnie Mouse illustrations on two sides/both end flaps. Box shows obvious wear and has had one end flap and two inner flaps replaced w/color photocopies. Opposite end flap and both inner flaps have wear/splits and have been reinforced w/tape. Side panels w/images both have heavy creasing. VG but still displays well. This toy is rarely found w/the box.
