Item Description
13" tall classic doll by Ideal Novelty & Toy Co. 1940. Movable head and upper body are composition while rest is wood-jointed. Complete and all original w/original faded red fabric cape, which has a few small holes and stain spotting. Figure has moderate, typical paint touch-ups or restoration as typically found and mostly on torso. Touched up chipped paint on chest. A few hairline cracks including .25" under left ear. Lt. paint rubs to hair. Wooden segments of arms and legs show lt. aging/wear and chest/back have some scattered paint flaking. Belt decal w/simulated buckle on front while back features copyright/company information. Belt decal has some scattered flaking. Back of belt has copyright information, but majority of text remains readable. Decal is about 85% complete. Chest symbol decal is equilateral triangle in shape and has a few tiny pinpoint flakes but remains 98% complete. Dolls were also produced w/more isosceles triangle-shaped decals. String has some looseness but doll does stands and displays Fine overall. The very first Superman figure. David Barsalou Collection.
