Item Description
10.5" dia. Mutoscope Reel by the International Mutoscope Reel Co. 1920s. The Mutoscope was invented in the 1890s by W.K.L. Dickson and Herman Casler. These early motion picture machines quickly became extremely popular. The Mutoscopes did not use celluloid, but rather cards w/photos, which when flipped rapidly by the mechanism created a moving image. Westerns, comedies and other subject matter were very popular in these arcade type machines. Offered here is a burlesque reel (which is one of the most sought after subjects), featuring a multitude of women in various states of undress, including several who are seen bare-breasted. Cast metal center has stamped "7719" Subject number. Reel is complete. Cards are evenly aged and have some expected wear from use. Fine to VF overall.
