Item Description
14x21.5" w/"Memphis, Tenn. 36" union bug in field at bottom center. King was assassinated in April 4, 1968 while in Memphis supporting striking sanitation workers seeking recognition of their union by city government. This placard was used four days later during a demonstration led by King's wife, Coretta Scott King, honoring her late husband. Horizontal crease at center, two 1" & 1.5" long horizontal tears along left edge, handling wear and light age toning at edges. VG. Rare. This is a companion piece to the "Union Justice Now" and iconic "I Am A Man" placards carried by demonstrators at the end of March and beginning of April. An important artifact of the movement tied to the fate of its iconic leader.
