Item Description
11x17" glazed cotton flag professionally framed to 17.5x23". This design has long been a collector favorite because of its charming spelling "Abram" and manageable size. This specimen is from the legendary 1980s 'quilt find' when nearly two dozen campaign flags from the 1860-1868 elections were discovered in use as backing of a quilt. Of the group 8-10 were of this design and because of their utilitarian use all were sheltered from the decimating light preserving their fragile color pigments. A 1x1.5" hole affecting two stars in the canton, nicely masked w/blue backing paper attached via archival tape on reverse for display. Otherwise scattered light brown spotting and light even age toning. Fine. Not examined out of the frame. Striking color gives this flag an outstanding display quality especially when considering that the majority of surviving Lincoln campaign flags present w/condition issues from the often hard use they endured during the campaign and their subsequent travels in over 150 years of existence. With interest in Lincoln material seemingly always at a fever pitch, this is an excellent opportunity to obtain an impressive example of an important American political campaign artifact featuring a pivotal candidate from a historic election.
