Item Description
10x13" on card stock  w/Trade Union Leadership Council (TULC) at bottom and address for headquarters "A. Philip Randolph Freedom House" in Detroit, MI. Featuring quote "Oh Freedom! Oh Freedom! Before I'll Be A Slave, I'll Be Dead And Buried In My Grave And Go Home To My God And Be Free" and call to action "A Voteless People Is A Voiceless People. Strike A Blow For Freedom. Vote On Election Day November 7, 1961." Scattered tears, creases, heavy handling and surface dirt. Good. This campaign was largely responsible for the Detroit Mayoral victory of Jerome Cavanagh. The TULC endorsed the candidate and  African American voters were largely opposed to incumbent Louis Mariani who they held responsible for police brutality in the city. Cavanagh defeated the heavily favored Mariani by over 50,000 votes in the successful campaign illustrating the impact of African Americans heading to the polls.
