Item Description
2.25". No maker. Spring pin holds ribbons and plastic football. Issued for the Jan. 12, 1969 championship game at the Miami Orange Bowl between the Colts and the New York Jets. A button was made for each team, this has "Colts" name below football image (see next lot). The Jets upset the Baltimore Colts in Super Bowl III 16-7, upholding Joe Namath's bold victory guarantee. It was the first Super Bowl victory for the AFL. This was the first AFL-NFL championship game to officially bear the trademark name "Super Bowl." Trace of surface oxidation on metal back. Rest is NM, button is glossy. Paul Muchinsky Collection.
