Item Description
There is a gold version of this fob which was presented to Johnson when he began training for his fight with James Jeffries. That unique piece recently exceeded $19k in an auction. These are now the scarce "pot" metal versions by maker "Geo. Larson Co." to be bought as souvenirs by fight fans, but with the governor banning the fight in California there was a hasty re-location to Reno. Muchinsky discusses this fob on page 7 of his Boxing Pin-Back Buttons book. The first of these made for original  "California 1910" location and unaltered has slight smoothing of front details. This has blank back. VF. Paul Muchinsky Collection. The second fob was once silvered but near all silvering is gone although brass luster remains on  the back stamp inscription  "Kill-Et California -- World's Main Event/Nevada/July 4, 1910". Front has "RENO" stamped above the images of the boxers. Other than luster loss, just light detail wear, VF. Paul Muchinsky Collection Book Example.
