Item Description
2.5x3.5". The 1955 Topps Football All-American set marks the final time that Topps would feature college football players as 1956 would begin their portrayal of professional players from that point forward. Set features 100 cards in total and highlights past college greats who were chosen as All-Amercians during their day. Some collectors consider many of the stars from this set to be "rookie" cards as they marked the player's first appearance in a mainstream football set. Amongst these all-time greats are: Jim Thorpe, Red Grange, Mel Hein, Ernie Nevers, Bruiser Kinard, Ace Parker, Don Hutson and Pete Henry. Carlisle. Jim Thorpe was one of football's earliest stars while also enjoying a modest career in professional baseball, including a couple of seasons with John McGraw's New York Giants during the 1910s. Jim was also highly regarded as a track and field athlete in numerous events and many believe that Thorpe could possibly have been the greatest all-around athlete of the 20th Century. Jim was elected to the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 1963.
