Item Description
24.75x29" frame w/21.25x25.5" opening. Hake #3026 and listed in Collins Threads of History as plate 327 on p. 170. Cotton bandana w/portrait of candidate from a J. C. Buttre engraving of a Mathew Brady photo. Image has "President Abraham Lincoln" below and is framed by a laurel wreath dotted w/berries. Bold red background is decorated w/six pointed stars. Border features eagles w/American shields and corners each have clasped hands flanked by American flags. Light age toning in cream background not distracting from the quality of the portrait and the overall magnificence of the design. VF. Material from 1864 is notably rarer than that of 1860 and w/so few larger fabric pieces featuring a bearded portrait, this stands among the most impressive Lincoln textiles. A rare opportunity to acquire a focal point investment grade Lincoln artifact.
