Item Description
13.5x17" w/"Published By Currier & Ives" at bottom center. At left Jefferson Davis has captured an African American Union soldier that he intends to return to slavery, McClellan offers an olive branch to Davis permitting his action and begs for the South's return to the Union. At right Lincoln holds Davis at the end of a bayonet demanding unconditional surrender and that emancipated slaves not be returned to slavery. Light brown stain around margin a result of old matting. Moderate age toning and handling wear. VG. Scarce. A standout among the cartoon prints issued for the 1864 campaign.
