Item Description
Outstanding set in 5.75x11x1.75" deep beautiful box w/unbroken but replaced cellophane window beneath title "Kerk Guild's Soapy Characters From The Land Of Oz." This rare set consists of "The Scarecrow, The Tin Woodman, The Wizard, The Cowardly Lion And The Wicked Witch." Dorothy is not included as she was sold separately but she is pictured seven times on box lid and illustrated side panels along w/Toto, The Good Witch and the other major characters. One side panel reads "For Fun In The Tub." Box holds a stiff cardboard insert creating five compartments. This removes to create a 5.5x17" long bkg. display panel, creating a 3-D effect that includes four diecut standout tree trunk further diecut at top for apples and leaves. In middle of bkg. is a very ornate castle on hilltop. Each soap is 4.5" tall. Noses of Woodman, Wizard and Scarecrow are flat rather than raised but this appears to be as made. Some paint flaking but as most of figures were not painted that much, this does not detract from the beauty of this set. 90-95% paint remains on characters. Witch has small .25x1/8" chip off of hat brim which is flattened in front but this appears to be as made. Only item missing from set are the original rubber bands which anchored figures to bkg. panel. Soaps are still structurally sound and display VF. Insert is Exc. Box has lt. edge wear, penciled text on blank back panel. VF. Only the third we've seen in 38 years.
