Item Description
16x20" matte w/11x13" opening. Satirical certificate produced by Nixon for staff that traveled to Moscow, Russia for the now infamous 1959 American National Exhibition. Nixon's visit to Russia was highlighted by an exchange w/Nikita Khrushchev on July 24 as the two leaders toured a model of a typical American kitchen. The pair's conversation turned heated as Nixon called out the Russian leader for his actions and attitude toward the US. The events made international headlines w/the iconic photo used at top of this certificate being widely published. To commemorate the events Vice President Nixon had these certificates produced for members of his staff that were w/him on the trip referring to the group as the "Kitchen Cabinet." This certificate was issued to aide Alfred F. Flynn. Certificate is mounted to an oversized piece of thick cardboard w/loss at lower right not affecting certificate. Scattered and faint dots of age toning along matte edges. Displays VF as matted. Only the third we've encountered in our 55 years w/the others in institutional collections.
