Item Description
24x27" linen. 1844. Blue border of garland of oak leaves and acorns w/portrait of Clay at center based on an 1842 painting by John Nagel from life. Portrait surrounded by text "Tariff/Clay/Union/Harry Of The West/Frelinghuysen." Slogans accompanying corner vignettes include "Agriculture And Commerce/Union And Our Country/Tariff Home League/Rolling In To Clear The Way." Tack mounted to to board at top corners. Random stress along margins and light even age toning. Fine. Overall fabric remains stable, and bandana displays splendidly. Much scarcer than the more often seen brown variety.
