Item Description
This was a major Labor Day weekend event and one of a series of 24 stock chassis races sponsored by AAA ranging from the west coast to New England. A month prior the New York Times ran major article with photos detailing the event for which 20,000 tickets were printed. The Times article shows scheduled participants Al Denison in a Knox car, Wm. Knipper in a Chalmers and Geo. Robertson in a Locomobile. Text reads "National Stock Chassis Race Lowell, Mass. Sept. 6-8 1909". The celluloid and brass luster over white metal badge is by W&H 3-1/8" tall  and not only an early auto racing artifact but also the earliest "Press" badge for an auto race we've seen. Slight loss of luster. VF. Rare.
