Item Description
4.25" round. Czar Alexander I and Queen Alexeievna (Princess Louise Marie of Baden, hand picked by Catherine the Great). Alexander's military campaign of continual retreat from Napoleon, luring him into Russia's devastating winter is called one of the most brilliant in history. The effect on Napoleon's army cannot be underestimated. With Cyrillic inscriptions referring to War & Peace and dated 1814, this box likely commemorates Russia's role in finally defeating Napoleon at Waterloo that same year. Minor in painting at edge chips w/age consistent lacquer crazing. Exc.
