Item Description
5.5" long. From the Vice Presidential Notification Ceremony for Wendell Willkie's running mate. Ceremony held in Saleim, Oregon, the capital city of Senator Charles McNary's home state. Dated August 27, 1940. According to reporting by the Statesman Journal (Salem), he concluded his speech by saying, " May I remind you that the Republican party this year lifts the standard of hope; a standard to which all men and women of courage and clearsighted faith in our mighty traditions may repair...Problems change, new dangers arise-yet remain the ancient virtues, self-reliance, faith, hope and courage-which animated and sustained the pioneer in his quest for a greater, ever greater America. With your cooperation, we shall renew that quest...with your help, we shall not fail." Has a pinhole just left of the "C" in "Committeeman", as well as a few diagonal creases and a faint light brown stain just right of the "I" in "Committeeman" that is barely seen. Otherwise only light surface wear and handling.  Retains strong blue color. VF. Only the second we can recall encountering in our 55 years.
