Item Description
3-5/8x6.5" envelope w/Supermen Of America - Action Comics logo at upper left w/Superman breaking chains image and typed recipient name/address. Envelope has moderate aging and some wear from being opened. VG/Fine. 5.5x8-3/8" typed letter includes text mentioning free prize offers including "Beautiful Four Color Felt Superman Emblem" shown in included circular as well as upcoming issue of Action Comics. Letter is signed "Very Sincerely Yours, Supermen Of America." Letter has been folded as mailed and is evenly aged w/some lt. scattered surface paper insect damage on back. VF. Single-sided 10.5x15" newsprint circular features choice full color which includes 5.25" dia. actual size image of emblem along w/illustration of two boys wearing the emblem proudly. This art appears to have been drawn by Vincent Sullivan, the first editor of Action Comics. Bottom urges member to get three friends to join the Supermen of America club and send in their names/addresses/ages along w/10¢ each and coupon at lower left. Lower right has art image of Trylon and Perisphere and has text "Superman At The New York World's Fair! You Can Read This Thrilling Episode Of Superman In The New York World's Fair Comics!" Circular has been single vertical fold and five horizontal folds and is evenly aged. Some small tears at edges of fold lines, but still Fine/VF overall. Just the second example of the envelope and letter in our 55 years and just the third example of the circular, this by far the best example we've offered. An amazing piece of Superman ephemera from this short-lived promotion, even rarer than the emblem itself (see following lot).
