Item Description
Each is 3.5x5.5". From the Chantecler: The Great Card Game. Invented in 1910, the 2-4 person game was produced by the Standard Playing Card Co. in which featuring the Chantecler, Peacock, Pheasant, and Owl were the trump cards in the game. These postcards are advertisements for the popular early 20th century game, with images of various birds. Three of the cards have suffrage messaging, w/hens dressed as suffragettes and signs reading "Votes For Women," while a male owl gawks at them below, saying, "Oh You Suffagette". Each of the three "Votes for Women" cards has the same artwork but have slight variation, such as the color of the word bubble, or the addition of additional text at the bottom advertising the Chantecler game. There is some scattered creasing on the postcards w/o suffrage messaging, but the three w/"Votes For Women" have only minor edge wear and light handling, retaining bold color. The three VFW cards are Exc., while the other five range from VF to Exc. An interesting intersection of advertising and politics.
