Item Description
2.5x3.5". Topps 1979 Football set consists of 528 cards. Each card front features a posed player portrait with his identity and team name along the top; his position appears within a football logo incorporated into a banner design also set at the top of the card. Backs contain statistics and highlights. Subsets include league leaders (#s 1-6), playoffs (#s 166-168) and record breakers (#s 331-336). Topps printed each card in its 1979 series on its standard dark card stock, as well as on a thinner cream-colored card stock. The latter variation is considered slightly more difficult to find.
Earl Christian Campbell, nicknamed "the Tyler Rose", is an American former professional football player who played as a running back in the National Football League (NFL) for the Houston Oilers and New Orleans Saints. Earl Campbell was named the NFL's Offensive Player of the Year in each of his first three seasons, during which he averaged nearly 1,700 rushing yards per season. He won the AP NFL Most Valuable Player Award in 1979 after leading the league in rushing yards and touchdowns. Earl Campbell was elected in to the Pro Football Hall Of Fame in 1991.
