Item Description
16x22"broadside. Tacked at top r/l corners to acid free matte board. 18x24" overall. From an issue of the Plattsburgh Republican w/newsprint on verso. Design features names of the 1840 Democratic nominees up and down the ballot, from Van Buren and Johnson at the top, all the way down to the candidates for sheriff and coroner. Bottom reads "New York Must Be Redeemed." Unfortunately for the Democrats, 1840 proved to be a Whig landslide in New York, Van Buren losing to William Henry Harrison and the Democratic candidates for Governor, Senator, and Congress, all losing to their Whig opponents. Slight even age toning, otherwise scattered minor spotting that amounts to light surface wear and handling. Edge wear most notably along the right edge. VF. A large and impressive artifact from the 1840 campaign.
