Item Description
1". No maker and no backpaper likely as issued. Shows white boxer knocking black boxer into space with movement accent lines, 3 stars and crescent moon. Reads "Jeffries Comet Visible San Francisco July 4th." The fight, organized by famed promoter Tex Rickard was originally set for July 4 (1910) in San Francisco as this button states; however, California governor James Gilette withdrew support June 15, 1910 forcing Rickard to re-schedule in Reno and leaving no time to produce souvenir buttons stating the correct location. Button has 4 exceedingly trivial and near invisible tiny age dots on extreme edge. Hake book Collectible Pin-Back Buttons photo example Sports Section #38. Comes with Hake's COA. Extremely Fine. Displays N. Mint. A most historic boxing button and the only one known to us. See next item.
