Item Description
Superb 1.5" of Indian w/rifle on horseback, although noticeable tan stain on 60% of rim and a bit into image area at far left. Reads "Congress Of Typical American Indians Omaha 1899." Following the success of 1898 fair, local Omaha hotel, restaurant and saloon owners backed the 1899 re-opening of the fair now named the "Greater America Exposition." The original gathering of Indians for the Aug., 1898 "Congress" attracted many tribes plus the appearance of Apache prisoners, including Geronimo, from Fort Sill. Spectators watched tribes perform battle re-enactments. The 1899 exposition saw fewer tribes attending the Congress but Chief Red Cloud was there. Button includes moderately aged W&H back paper. Hake book Collectible Pin-Back Buttons photo example Indian Section #21. Strong color, VG. Only example known to us. Rare. Comes w/Hake's COA.
