Item Description
11x13" on thick paper. Currier print published in 1860. Features Horace Greeley and Abraham Lincoln w/"Zip" featured in the center. William H. Johnson or "Zip" as he was known for Barnum's sideshow attraction, was born in New Jersey in the mid-1840s. Due to the unusual shape and size of his head, Barnum recruited Johnson to portray a mysterious survivor of a long lost tribe in the Amazon. Text at the bottom of the print reads "An Heir To The Throne Or The Next Republican Candidate". There are two sealed punctures in the center that have been repaired. Evidence of repairs only seen on reverse. Print has also been trimmed. Light scattered wear and handling. VF. A scarce print highlighting the prejudiced beliefs held by some at the time.
