Brass 2" tall eagle stickpin w/.75" brass medalet. Obverse shows ship w/text "Remember The Maine" and reverse shows portrait w/text "Richmond P. Hobson Santiago Hero." Hobson commanded volunteers who attempted to deliberately sink the coal ship Merrimac in the Santiago Harbor w/hope that the wreck would trap the Spanish fleet inside. The mission was a failure and Hobson & crew were captured. They were eventually exchanged and he became overnight celebrity. NM, rare.
