As Mickey's 50th approached, the need was clear for a specific date and Disney archivist Dave Smith selected Nov. 18, 1928, the date Mickey appeared publicly in Steamboat Willie at NYC's Colony Theater. The 1978 celebration was a major event highlighted by 57-city train tour that included animator Ward Kimball. This button was given away on the trip.
