Item Description
2.5x2-7/8". The 1910-12 T218 Mecca Cigarettes Champions series includes 153 total cards. Card fronts depict various sportsmen - from Track & Field, Bowling, Aviation, Golf and Boxing - with colorfully painted scenes.  The backs have advertisements for either tobacco brands.  Hassan or Mecca are commonly found backs and cards with Tolstoi backs are considered much more rare. Jack Johnson was an American boxer who, at the height of the Jim Crow era, became the first black world heavyweight boxing champion (1908-1915). His 1910 fight against James J. Jeffries was dubbed the "fight of the century". He is widely regarded as one of the most influential boxers in history. Transcending boxing, he became part of the culture and history of racism in the United States.
