Item Description
There are 264 standard-sized cards in the 1979-80 Topps hockey issue, only four of which (81, 82, 263 & 261) differ from their O-Pee-Chee counterparts. The player's name, team position and team logo are featured on a blue-bordered front which chips easily, making high grade cards difficult to obtain. The card backs feature statistics, a biography and are illustrated with a cartoon that pertains to the player. Packs contained ten cards and a stick of bubble gum. Wayne Gretzky was a Canadian former professional ice hockey player and former head coach. He played 20 seasons in the National Hockey League (NHL) for four teams from 1979 to 1999. Nicknamed "the Great One", he has been called the greatest ice hockey player ever by many sportswriters, players, The Hockey News, and by the NHL itself. After his retirement in 1999, Wayne Gretzky was immediately inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame, making him the most recent player to have the waiting period waived
