Item Description
21.5x27.5" framed w/19.25x25.25" opening. The Union Labor Party was a short-lived political party in between the Greenbacks of the mid-1880s and the Populist Party of the 1890s. It was anti-monopoly, supported women's suffrage, the free coinage of silver, the direct election of senators, a graduated income tax, and public ownership of railroads and other transportation. The Union Labor Party only received about 1% of the vote in 1888 and finished in fourth place. Poster features highly detailed portraits of the candidates w/industrial and agricultural vignettes in the background. In the upper left and lower right quadrants of the poster is the platform of the party, adopted in Cincinnati on May 15, 1888. Scattered creasing and edge wear, as well as scattered faint staining and moisture marks that detract little. Technically VF, but displays above grade. Not examined outside of frame. A rare and impressive third party artifact.
