Item Description
22.25" long. Paper. Goldberg JFK-CUBA-2. The cancellation of this October 7, 1962 event was officially reported as due to inclement weather but history has revealed that Kennedy needed to return to Washington to focus on the escalating Cuban Missile Crisis that brought the world to the brink of nuclear war. That same day Cuban President Osvaldo Dorticos spoke at the UN General Assembly saying "...we have sufficient means with which to defend ourselves; we have indeed our inevitable weapons, the weapons, which we would have preferred not to acquire, and which we do not wish to employ." Portrait of Alec Olsen on reverse, as well as several MN coattails named, including Hubert Humphrey and Walter Mondale. Moderate handling wear, most notably a small tear along the bottom left edge. VF. John Hillhouse Collection.
