8.5x11" two pages on BPP "Central Headquarters 8501 East 14th Street" Oakland, CA headquarters stationary. Written to Alex Haley, author of the autobiography of Malcolm X, in his capacity at Doubleday publishing. Elaine Brown write in part "As you well know, more and more is being revealed regarding the Counterintelligence activity on the part of the FBI and other such agencies against our Party. It has been ten years now since the inception of the Party and 31 Comrades are in their graves, hundred of false arrests have been made of Party members, several million dollars in bail money have been paid, our homes and offices have been violently attacked, friends and supporters have been harassed, and we still carry on." Brown seeks Haley sponsorship of "Committee For Justice" which intends to file a lawsuit related to COINTELPRO and the murder charges against group co-founder Huey P. Newton. COINTELPRO, was a counterintelligence program operated by the FBI between 1956 to 1971 to discredit groups considered subversive to U.S. political stability. The program heavily targeted the Black Panther Party.
