Item Description
14.25x14.25" framed w/12x12" opening. Cotton. Copper plate printed. Features bluetone portrait of Washington and text on right provides birth and death dates w/summary of his presidency. Text on left is brief extract from speech given by Washington on September 19, 1796 in which he announced his resignation from the presidency after serving eight years in office, setting the two-term precedent for future presidents. A few stains, most notably just left of Washington's left hand on text, and along the right edge just above the "British Lion". Otherwise light handling wear. VF.  Not examined outside of frame. An impressive early 19th century textile.
