Item Description
8.5" square by 2" deep box holds seven tin litho toys by Animate, 1920s. Box is illustrated on lid and all four sides w/boys similar to Reg'lar Fellers characters. Box is signed "Doc Rankan" who was an illustrator of the period of girlie magazines and later moved on to do some of the best 8-pager work including the Fuller Brush Man series. Box bottom has original dividers, lid has heavy wear including water stains, brown spotting, surface paper loss and tears on one side. Good. Set consists of "Baby Tractor, Baby Road Roller" and various wagons, tamper & shovel, road closed signs, etc. A small hoe may be missing. As is common with this toy company's toys, the reverse windup mechanism no longer works on the roller and just barely works on the tractor. Most children did not heed the "Do No Push Forward" warnings that are printed on these toys. Toys show some wear including paint nicks on tractor wheels and spot of oxidation on scraper yoke. Overall toys are Fine to VF. Also included is four-page instruction booklet w/additional sets pictured on back page. This has some staining. VG to Fine.
